“Everything and everyone was just perfect!”–Sandra A.
“I work for a Doctors office and my experience at this office was awesome!”–Ronda T.
The origin of Valentine’s Day as a holiday for lovers began with Geoffrey Chaucer in his 1382 poem “Parlement of Foules.” Chaucer wrote, “For this was on Saint Valentine’s Day, when every bird cometh there to choose his mate,” and the modern romantic holiday was born. William Shakespeare and other writers mentioned Valentine’s Day as a day of love.
Valentine’s Day as we know it came about in the early 19th century. In Victorian England, printers began manufacturing small numbers of cards with romantic verses, lace, ribbons, and other frills. Anonymous Valentine’s Day card were a popular way for young lovers to exchange romantic sentiments in an otherwise prudish time. As the 19th century progressed, printers began mass manufacturing Valentine’s Day cards. People in the United States give an estimated 190 million valentines every year, and up to one billion if you count children exchanging cards at school! With the rise of the Internet, Valentine’s Day e-cards have become a popular mode of communication, with millions of e-cards sent each year.
The other items associated with Valentine’s Day include chocolate and flowers. The tradition of giving chocolates has been around for decades, and Richard Cadbury created the first box of Valentine’s Day chocolates nearly 150 years ago. Today, purchases of chocolate total over $1 billion in the United States alone, with 35 million heart-shaped boxes sold each year. Loved ones also exchange flowers, with red roses being associated with Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love. On Valentine’s Day itself, florists sell nearly 200 million stems of roses.

The holiday season has arrived! And with it comes many tempting treats that can make it challenging if you have braces. Here are some guidelines to help you enjoy the holidays (and keep your orthodontist happy!)
Foods to Enjoy:
Green bean casserole
Pumpkin pie (without hard crust)
Foods to Avoid:
Hard candies (cinnamon, peppermint)
Hard cookies (gingerbread, hard sugar cookies)
Meat on the bone (ribs, chicken wings, turkey legs)
Remember to brush and floss especially after any sugary treats. Have a wonderful holiday!
The Brilliant Smiles Orthodontics team would like to take time to show appreciation for our Military. To the men and women who have served, as well as those who are serving, THANK YOU for all you have done and sacrificed for our freedom! You are our heroes… Happy Veterans Day!
All that I can say is Wow! Thank you so much… Patricia G.
If you are a member of the Brilliant Smiles Orthodontics family or if you’ve previously visited our site you’ve probably noticed a few changes. Well, after months of hard work, we finally have our new website launched. There is a lot of useful information for current patients and families looking to start orthodontic treatment. I want to take time and point out some of the highlights and new features of the website.
There are two areas at the top of the home page that are very important. To the left is a tab for special offers. Click on this tab to see what discounts and promotions the office if offering on our services from braces to Invisalign and teeth whitening. To the right you will see a cluster of social media icons. Facebook, Twitter, g+, and our Blog. Our Twitter and g+ accounts are still in the works but our Facebook page and Blog are up and running. Click on the links and find out what’s happening at the office!
As stated before, there is a lot of helpful information. Under the new patient drop down are entries that will explain new patient exams, what to expect at each appointment and offers you the ability to print out your new patient packet. For our current patient, there is information on how to handle an emergency or comfort care situations and information to let you know what life with braces is like.
Under the treatment tab, you will find insight into why orthodontic treatment is needed, based on your age. There are specific sections for children, teenagers, and adults so click on your sections to find out what options are available for you! We also have a section which presents the different types of braces and retainers that we offer.
For those interested in Invisalign. We are one of the largest Invisalign and Invisalign Teen providers in Brevard County. Click on the Invisalign section to read about Invisalign and watch several testimonial videos about Invisalign for teens and adult treatment.
Another very useful feature is the Calendar which allows you to select a week or month and see which days we are in the Palm Bay of Melbourne office. This is helpful for planning ahead and scheduling appointments or for knowing where to find the team.
Last but definitely not least, under office information you can read our welcome message, find out more about the Brilliant Smiles Experience, and read the mini-biographies of the Brilliant Smiles Orthodontics Team including Dr. Goff.
Thanks for reading our blog and feel free to subscribe to our blog for periodic updates. (You can click on the RSS symbol in the top right corner next to the g+ symbol to subscribe to our blog.)
Thanks to the team at Brilliant Smiles, I love my new smile!!!
